So we've come to the place where royalty awaits with four teams left and the final result to arrive on the First and Only Monday. It's Ohio State and Kansas, Louisville and Kentucky with the odds-on and most every horse looking at the cats and expecting a title. Everyone of course except those that would rather whip the cat by its tail than hear the tale of the cats crown. No one's got Louisville, as we might expect. The West is dead as fried chicken to everyone. Only the upset special will be served out of the west...with the side of humble pie if Kentucky loses to Louisville. Not to mention regional bragging rights. But who can argue with the Kentucky line? or better question might be...who can play with them??? Louisville's frenetic pace and approach seeks to confound and it might be enough. If only because it seemed to be enough against anyone else. But we all know Kentucky isn't "anyone" else. It's Kentucky. And you can debate if Cal is paying them enough, but you can't argue with the UK dominance. No one will be surprised if Kentucky rolls to the end, you know. Which is what will make this thing all the sweeter if they lose. Even if I have a Kentucky - Kansas final on my sheet There's a familiar phrase around these parts. It goes like this: "Kansas wins, SteveOh wins. " It seems like every time Kansas makes a run in March, steveoh is there to ride the JayJ's as far as they refuse to fly. But in actuality it's because SteveOh's bracket has Kansas seemingly every year. No sheet, right??!!! So he's consistent, which means he loses more than he wins if he's picking KU every year, but he has gotten several years of run in these increasingly sparse updates with that "same ole bracket" approach. Yet the streak remains. Kansas wins Sandra's brother SteveOh wins. Go figure. And you know that's the way I am going in this thing too....Kansas over Kentucky. And Kansas at 15/1 on an October future. But that's another story. But since it's all about Kentucky, there will be a lot of confusion going towards the end if they keep winning. The loss by Carolina last round thinned the MM heard significantly. 23 sheets followed Alpha Blue, who was this year's winner of "Quickest to the Can." He flamed out faster than Rock Hudson, and a bunch of Lags and leMMings fell off of Cliff with him...I mean THE cliff. Damn you auto caps!! Anyway, their eyes have been replaced with X'es, but not all of them have Xes next to their names. WTF? Get on it people! Almost half of the field scored their last point prior to the F4. It lightens the load but does little to let the end be known. But one thing we do know is that the end is here for Fab Melo. He once again captured the Udog crown but it wasn't enough this season. Still, despite the field leaving 26 Udog points on the table with the Lehigh and Norfolk blowing up the possibility pot for the Udogs. Fabby won it with 38 points. Pretty impressive, but not enough to offset zero points in the last three games. Similarly, early gains by Sbux and Chub Dog were cut short by late losses earned early in the contest. Buh bye, boys. Beat it. But Sbucks....send the bucks here. you are light get it in. I have to beg every year, folks. It's FOR CHARITY...get it in! If I didn't have to waste time typing that may be we could focus on the games? Or at least the temperature near the surface layer of the pool. That's what swimmers like B Funk want to talk about. Which brings us to the late game. What happens if Ohio State runs the table? That, to me, seems like the most likely non-Kentucky scenario. I mean, I love Kansas, but I don't trust them. Ohio state, on the other hand.,. They seem to do things that other teams can't handle very well.Yeah, and it's called Jared Sullinger and a barrage of threes. We may not recognize it as elite in Big Ten country, but they were a preseason top-five pick. And they certainly will end the season there. So who knows, right? That game will be a good one. At least it looks like it will be on paper. Watch. It will probably be a blowout snoozer, make-me-hate either Ohio State or Kansas even more game. Wait. Now that I think about it, that has seemingly equal potential to send MM to bed hoping for a nightmare to stop the mental imagery. So I know it answers nothing, and I am not telling you anything you can't discern from the standings. But at the same time, I don't solve anything. In general, or usually, but sometimes not... 40 minutes does. Or in the case of tonight, 80 minutes. And when that stretch is done, plus any amount of what the grass ferries would refer to as "injury time" is over, we'll know whose got a shot, and who's pretending. And we'll know which animal will face the winner of the Nutbird semi-final. And who just sunk to the bottom of the deep end. Swim on!!! Sunday, March 18, 2012 - 12:17 PM
Back when Elmo was Melo and Melo followed Car, the wizard of wired walls was notorious for putting up the UDogs. Like picks only the like of ufcker could be likened to. They get big. Other times and more often times, they blow up like a model rocket that takes off into your crotch! BOOM!! And it is harsh indeed. But not this time. At least not this time so far for Fab Melo. His dinner party at the F4 is going to be a seat light, but Duke will still be there...serving the food. Sportspickle coined it, CBS Already Finished with "One Shining Moment" Montage After Duke Loss. Classic! Worthy of the newest acronym for lol: JSMP Which is exactly what could happen to Elmelo if Wisconsin beats Syracuse next week. But for now, the luckiest winners in the Saturday Sweepstakes were Hot Bot and Chub Dog. Woof. Hot Bot got so hot he Mizzed all over his First and Only Monday, so he's limping in with one cannon and a bruised testicle. To be fair, HotBot did limp all the way up to second place. So ride that rocket your brother is lighting..it's all family, so no worries on where you face plant. But it's the Chubby Puppy that had his day! CD only picked six correct on Saturday, but it's what he didn't lose that matters. Of the six with a chance, Sonny, this Dogg is the only one to emerge unscathed. How did he do that?!? Don't know, but if he gets NC State, along with the likes of SBux and Melo, that would be big...and bigger UDogs. Hold onto your pink floaty. Saturday, March 17, 2012 - 10:57 AM
What...in....THE...hell?.!?!We've been doing this thing for a long long time, and we've never been on that sort of roller coaster! If yer name is Shub99, yer probably not "giggling again" from the back car, and if your name is Chicken, you might be up front right now, but the buckle is rattling loose, and you just realized that the safety inspection was done by Daytime the crash test dummy. IOW, it's only a matter of time before you get ejected....just like her beloved Missouri Tigers...and Duke...and...well, the boys from the giggle factory down the street. Cough, cough gag, gag. As SoMoney asked, "Do you think they know the difference between Ohio and Ohio State now?" more... Tuesday, March 13, 2012 - 12:25 AM
Ok, so here we go.....and I gotta admit....ever since they went to 68 teams, this thing gets all jacked up outta the gate. (and near the end of yer me)...but no worries, partner! It's nearly time to tip. So it no longer matters if you got in as a 3-seed or in the three point stance, or if you are a bloated Billiken coach or a bruising Bruin from Belmont, it's TIME TO DANCE!! more |
